Happy Mothering Sunday

Hello Everyone,

If you are in the UK, this weekend is Mothering Sunday and if you are Irish, Saturday is St. Patrick's Day. Both are reasons to celebrate and make this a super weekend. I can add a third reason to be happy. This is the last weekend of winter. Our clocks go forward next weekend and it is officially summer time. Hooray!

Mothering Sunday is traditionally a Christian festival which falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent. Historically, it was a day when young people, who had left their families to go into service, were given a holiday enabling them to go home. They would take small gifts for their mothers, usually flowers and a card, and they would go to the church where they had been baptised. Now, like so many occasions, the custom has become commercialised and all kinds of gifts, chocolates, flowers, toiletries, perfume, clothes, stationery... are specifically for Mothering Sunday. This Sunday has also become known as a general celebration of motherhood and the custom of taking gifts is extended to other women in the family, grandmothers, aunts, step-mothers and mother-in-laws.

Anyway, however, you celebrate this weekend, enjoy it and BE HAPPY.
