Diamonds are a girl's best friend!

Diamond, Gem, 3D, Sparkle, Gloss, Shining, Expensive
A diamond is forever!
Hello everyone, I'm still thinking about 'giving'. A book is a gift for life but there are many other things which may be given that last a life time. I delved into the archives and found this one from July last year. Who doesn't like receiving diamonds or any jewellery? Always considered to be the perfect gift albeit an expensive one; far more expensive than a book. ********************************** Well, it's July and that means half of the year has disappeared...fallen down the famous black hole never to return. Hopefully, you have happy memories so far and more good times ahead. I was approached by Kaitlin Enderley from the Mondiamo diamond company based in New York regarding a guest post on diamonds. Well, I just love diamonds; in fact all jewellery. They submitted this article which I read with interest and decided to share with you. Isn't that pic a stunner and inviting? If you need more info on diamonds or any advice visit https://www.mondiamo.com/about-us
Numerous factors impact the value of a diamond. Familiarizing yourself with them helps you better understand your diamonds’ worth. You’re able to make more informed decisions about buying and
selling diamonds as a result.

Specifically, it’s important to learn about the following essentials. While they are by no means the only factors contributing to a diamond’s value, they are among the more significant.

Cut

People often mistakenly assume cut refers to a diamond’s shape. In truth, it actually refers to the way in which its proportions interact with light to generate certain effects. For instance, a diamond with a high cut grade might return light through the crown in a way that makes it sparkle. A diamond with a lower cut grade won’t look as dynamic.

Color

The differences in color between one diamond and another are often difficult to see if you don’t have training. However, experts typically grade diamonds on a color scale ranging from D to Z. The closer to Z, the greater the color.

This isn’t desirable. Valuable diamonds are closer to D on the scale.

Clarity

It’s extremely difficult to find a diamond that hasn’t naturally developed some imperfections. They may have some blemishes (exterior marks), inclusions (interior marks), or both. This is what experts look at when assessing a diamond’s clarity.

Higher value diamonds have fewer blemishes and/or inclusions. Again, you’ll almost certainly never find a diamond that is completely flawless, but the closer to flawless it is, the better.

Carat

It’s not uncommon for people to assume carat is a measurement of a diamond’s size. However, it’s actually a weight measurement. A diamond that’s essentially the same size as another may have a different carat weight. That’s why experts pay attention to carat’s relationship with all the other factors listed here when determining how it impacts a diamond’s value.

Fluorescence

Fluorescent diamonds emit blue, green, yellow, or white light when exposed to short-wave ultraviolet light. Sometimes fluorescence has no effect on a diamond’s usual appearance because it’s only noticeable in certain conditions. That said, there are instances in which fluorescence can create a milky effect inside a diamond which reduces its value.

Colored Diamonds

Remember, typical white diamonds become less valuable the more colorful they are. That’s not the case with colored diamonds. Fancy color diamonds become more valuable with greater color saturation. That’s partially due to the fact that very colorful diamonds are particularly rare.

It’s worth noting that no factor listed here is more important than any others. Professionals consider all of them when determining a diamond’s value. The more you understand them, the easier it will be to make smart choices when buying a new diamond or selling one you currently own. Love to you all, Lady M xxx

My Easter gift to you!

Hello Everyone,

Today is Good Friday in the Christian Religion. It is the day when Christians remember how Jesus died on the Cross outside the Jerusalem City Wall.

On Sunday the church  will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ. That first Sunday morning, when the women went to the tomb where Jesus had been hastily lain only to find the stone removed and the body missing, is celebrated. The women were anxious to anoint the body, in accordance with Jewish tradition, at the earliest opportunity. Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and other women arrived at the tomb, expecting to find it secured by a stone. Imagine their surprise, the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. Inside, a young man, wearing a white robe, spoke to them, "Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him. But go tell his disciples and Peter, that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him as he told you."
(Mark ,Chapter16, vs 6 & 7.)

Christians remember that first Sunday morning and rejoice. It is proof, that there is an eternal, afterlife or new life. Chickens, eggs, rabbits are all symbolic of new life and new hope. However, you spend this Eastertide, have a very HAPPY EASTER!

                                                       ********************

I have a little Easter gift for you. From today until Tuesday both of my eBooks are on free download from Kindle. Just pop along to Amazon Kindle and put either my name or the book title in the browser and hey I will pop up and you will be able to download either or both free of charge. You do not need to have a Kindle tablet. This modern technology enables you to download to tablets or pc's. How it works is a mystery to me!

WRITE IT! PUBLISH IT! MARKET IT!  was published in 2016 as an aide to all those who wanted to bravely hike into the publishing world...

The Blurb

"How do you publish a book? This author first self-published fifteen years ago in a different publishing climate. But, that question is one I have been asked on numerous occasions. Originally, I produced a small booklet, "Write It! Publish It! Market It!" with advice and information for going through the process from writing to marketing: what to write, copyright, editing, proof reading, typesetting/text blocking, jacket, ISBN, blurb, page numbers, pricing, printing, promoting, libraries, shops, networking, marketing. I had discovered that it was a long and complicated process with many pitfalls. Print on demand (P o D) made it easier for authors to become publishers because it was possible to have small print runs. Then the e-book arrived, a new concept in publishing. I have updated my original booklet, including appropriate websites and adding my self-publishing story plus a chapter from one of my six books. This publication may be used as guidance for aspiring authors. Good luck to all of you who enter the publishing arena with your own work."

Well, writing a book begins with sitting down and writing that first sentence! Procrastination is not an option!

Life is... was published in June 2017 as a result of postings on Facebook! I think that answers a popular question of where do authors get their inspiration from!

The Blurb

"I like most people on the planet, have become a great fan of social media and in particular, Facebook. During the last six months I have been posting daily. Firstly, it was 'Words of Wisdom' and then I moved on to 'Life is…' Some of my thoughts were philosophical, others humorous. Sometimes I added photographs and emojis or I dedicated certain sayings to individual people. On a couple of occasions I even added a short story telling the inspiration behind the quotation, for example…'Life is about turning left instead of right and having an adventure!'
I noticed that I was getting a lot of those 'like' clicks and friends seemed to be enjoying my humble daily offering. I had an idea… put all of my posts into a short book and publish them. I have placed one of the 'Words of Wisdom' on each page and the' Life is…' quotations follow with some illustrations, either photographs from my albums or downloads from the Net under creative commons licence. All the acknowledgements may be found at the end of the booklet after information on my books. I hope that those of you who download this will delve into it on the dark days and find that it puts the smile back on your face.
How would I describe it? Humorous, philosophical, satirical, stimulating, inspirational, illuminating, intriguing, thought-provoking, fresh, invigorating and delightful. Enjoy!"

Sofia and Donald on the third day of Christmas

Howde Folks,

Yes, we are still down under with Miranda and the family. Her treat for Christmas day was an afternoon helicopter ride with champagne on board. On Boxing day she took them to Sydney in a private jet, the usual way she travels, to see The Illusionists, the spectacular magicians at the Opera House. Even Derek went and they are all still talking about it.

It is now the third day of Christmas with nine more to go to Epiphany on 6th January. This has led me to think about the traditional 'twelve days of Christmas', the gifts and what Miranda has in store for the rest of them. I remembered that Lady M took this gift thing seriously a few years ago and created a 21st Century list which I have found for you. Would you thank anyone for sending you 'a partridge in a pear tree' today? Would you really appreciate milking maids or leaping lords? So, if your true love were to send gifts on each of the Christmas days what would he choose in the 21st century?

Lady M thinks it would be something like this:-

On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me A Nintendo DS

On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS

On the third day of Christmas my true love sent to me 3 Digital cameras, 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love sent to me 4 Plasma TV's, 3 Digital cameras, 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS

On the fifth day of Christmas my true love sent to me 5 Gold rings, 4 Plasma TV's, 3 Digital cameras, 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS
(Yes! This one stays the same, who would not want five gold rings or any other jewellery! So...)

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love sent to me 6 Diamond pendants, 5 Gold rings, 4 Plasma TV's, 3 Digital cameras, 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS.

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me 7 Mobile phones, 6 Diamond pendants, 5 Gold rings, 4 Plasma TV's, 3 Digital cameras, 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS

On the eighth day of Christmas my true love sent to me 8 Bottles of French perfume, 7 Mobile phones, 6 Diamond pendants, 5 Gold rings, 4 Plasma TV's 3 Digital cameras, 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love sent to me 9 Boxes of Belgium chocolates, 8 Bottles of French perfume, 7 Mobile phones, 6 Diamond pendants, 5 Gold rings, 4 Plasma TV's, 3 Digital cameras, 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me 10 Designer handbags, 9 Boxes of Belgium chocolates, 8 Bottles of French perfume, 7 Mobile phones, 6 Diamond pendants, 5 Gold rings, 4 Plasma TV's, 3 Digital cameras, 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me 11 DVD's, 10 Designer handbags, 9 Boxes of Belgium chocolates, 8 Bottles of French perfume, 7 Mobile phones, 6 Diamond pendants, 5 Gold rings, 4 Plasma TV's, 3 Digital cameras, 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me 12 Red roses, 11 DVD's, 10 Designer handbags, 9 Boxes of Belgium chocolates, 8 Bottles of French perfume, 7 Mobile phones, 6 Diamond pendants, 5 Gold rings, 4 Plasma TV's, 3 Digital cameras, 2 Laptops and a Nintendo DS.

The Christmas Tree

Howde folks!

Sofia and Donald still here. Do you like the pic? I found it in Lady M's album. It was her tree a few years ago but I like the toys around it. They are the 'comfort' toys which Miranda bought for my children, Sophie and Donny. My darling children are in their late teens now and living in Australia but they took those toys with them and look at them every day. You may remember that I told them to burn a candle when they wanted to talk with me after my untimely demise. They still do that and Dad and I keep an eye on them.  Oh yes, I knew I was going to die early in life and you can read all about how in Look After Each Other.

Anyway,  Christmas is only ten days away now. Have you decorated your tree yet? This week Donald and I thought we would enlighten you as to the custom regarding the Christmas tree.

In the 8th century St Boniface was sent from England to Germany to preach about Jesus. On a frosty December evening he was walking in some woods when he came across a group of people about to make an offering of a little boy to a pagan god. The meeting was under a large oak tree. St Boniface rescued the boy and felled the tree. When it fell to the ground it left a small fir tree behind growing between its roots. St Boniface declared the fir tree to be their holy emblem because its leaves were evergreen and a sign of eternal life. Further, it pointed toward Heaven, henceforth, it would be called the tree of the Christ-Child.

The modern Christmas tree originated in Western Germany. Traditionally, it should not be decorated until Christmas Eve. However, in the 20th century the Christmas tree, like so many things, became more of a commercialism than a custom. It is now worldwide common practice to see decorated Christmas trees in stores, public places and homes from as early as October.

Traditional decorations were candles! Yes, really! It makes you wonder how many trees ended up as fires in the home. Along with the candles were ornaments, garlands and tinsel. An angel or star would be placed on the top point looking toward Heaven. The angel symbolising the host of angels and the star representative of the star of Bethlehem and the Nativity. Gifts are placed under the tree.

Only 9 more shopping days to buy those gifts.  Don't panic! In 11 days it will all be over!

Until next week be happy and try and stay sober through all the celebrating before the big day.

Love you all, Sofia and Donald xxxx

Happy Mothering Sunday

Hello Everyone,

If you are in the UK, this weekend is Mothering Sunday and if you are Irish, Saturday is St. Patrick's Day. Both are reasons to celebrate and make this a super weekend. I can add a third reason to be happy. This is the last weekend of winter. Our clocks go forward next weekend and it is officially summer time. Hooray!

Mothering Sunday is traditionally a Christian festival which falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent. Historically, it was a day when young people, who had left their families to go into service, were given a holiday enabling them to go home. They would take small gifts for their mothers, usually flowers and a card, and they would go to the church where they had been baptised. Now, like so many occasions, the custom has become commercialised and all kinds of gifts, chocolates, flowers, toiletries, perfume, clothes, stationery... are specifically for Mothering Sunday. This Sunday has also become known as a general celebration of motherhood and the custom of taking gifts is extended to other women in the family, grandmothers, aunts, step-mothers and mother-in-laws.

Anyway, however, you celebrate this weekend, enjoy it and BE HAPPY.
