A VALENTINE GIFT

LET THE BOOK SAY IT FOR YOU!

The final book in the SOFIA trilogy.
In the first book, LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER, Sofia visited a clairvoyant. From her reading she believed she was going to die in a few months’ time. This information caused her to take drastic action and change her life. She was determined to live it to the fullest. She had a ‘do-or-die’ list and embarked on a liberating journey of mind, body and soul.
The second book, SOFIA’S LEGACY, followed Sofia through the first year of her death.
Now, in LOVE YOU FOREVER, five years have passed. It is 2010. The reader sees how dramatic and unimaginable events have changed the lives of everyone Sofia left behind at Haslington Towers. Even more surprising events occur that lead to devastating consequences.
This stunning book series delves into karma, the afterlife, and more things in heaven and earth than you have ever dreamed!

Sofia's Choice 1... Her 65th birthday!

Howde Folks,

Yes, it's November and Lady M is going on her jollies or as she would say having a blast and enjoying days of booze, food and snooze in the sun. So, Donald and I have been called away from having fun to bring you some of our favourite posts from the archives. We thought we would begin by reminding everyone of her age. This was first posted almost four years ago when she reached the milestone and decided to wear that tee-shirt so that she could remember how old she was. Haha, Lady M you should have left us having fun!

                                                                      *******

Pensioners out there will sympathise with my plight of what to wear for such an occasion. Also, my fear of blinking in case 70 arrives because it does not seem like five years since my 60th birthday. As you see from the above pic I believe in recycling clothes. This was the tee-shirt I purchased for my 60th altered with a highlighter to suit the occasion. Those of you who follow me on Facebook will know that I have found a new place, 'Gelamo's' where there is a selection of ice-creams to die for.

So, when this milestone in my life arrived, how did I spend the day?
In one of my favourite places, Paphos, and with friends. I woke up and sighed in disbelief, opened the curtains to glorious sunshine and view of the harbour. After presents (oh yes, I had warned friends that I would be away and to send gifts early... forward planning on my part) and breakfast I took my stroll along the beach path to the harbour for my daily fix of ice-cream. Just look at that pic. Happy! Happy! Happy! Next, met my dear friend Boris before strolling back to the hotel for lunch.

In the afternoon? Relaxing on the sun-lounger, a little light reading and snooze until the sun went down. Then returned to my room and what did I find?

Yes, yippee... cake and champagne from The Alexander the Great Beach Hotel. I just love being pampered. Somehow, I managed to eat the cake and drink the champers. Well, it would be rude not to wouldn't it? It was delicious. Sorry folks, too delicious to share.

Then, the final part of the day. Mexican dinner in the restaurant with another special birthday cake and candle. The last part of the day? In the bar. Where else?

So, the perfect Paphos day.

I am now planning the next five years. Milestones are a part of life. How we deal with them is personal choice. Enjoy, weep or ignore.

How do you spend your milestones?

Until next week... be happy and if you have a milestone coming up accept it and try to enjoy it..

Lady M.

Sofia and Donald in Australia

Howde Folks,

Last Sunday Donald and I were at the Cenotaph and it was really sad but we were pleased to be there and show our respects. It surprised us, but we saw many others who were also in the afterlife and several who had ended their days on earth at Flanders Field. To those reading this, you never know when one or more of us are by your side.

Now, we have rushed down to Australia where our family are living and would like to give you an update on how things have gone since they left Haslington Towers. My beautiful children have left school and are working with Miranda learning all aspects of the business. They are on the board of directors. I am so proud of them. They are happy to work in the shops and restaurants and experience everything firsthand so that they understand the jobs from the point of view of the employees. Derek is still disappointed that they chose to ignore university. He had big ideas for them; they were going to get wonderful degrees and have eminent positions in their chosen walks of life which for Donny was to be a heart surgeon following in his father's footsteps. Sophie would have a greater choice but was to marry someone of status and importance. Their previous friends, Stephen Brook-Bank and Annabelle Proctor-Lees from their Nottingham schools are now history. Yes, they Skyped for awhile but the promised visit and holiday in Australia never materialised. They both went onto study A levels and are now at University. Stephen or 'BB' as his friends called him is at the University of Birmingham reading medicine and will follow in his father's footsteps. Annabelle is reading Media Studies at the University of Warwick and wants to be a television presenter. Their lives are totally different from Sophie and Donny's. As is the way, things have changed and they have all moved on; they are not even in a relationship now. They both have new partners. Derek groans when he thinks of them; they have all that he wanted for the twins. He cannot accept that his children are happy and do not need degrees; their lives are sorted and their futures are bright and prosperous. They know how lucky they are and appreciate what they have. Donnie's hobby is still astronomy and Miranda has had a new Skyshed erected for him. My dear friend Miranda...

"Wow, here you both are." An exuberant Charles Urquart-Latterly joined them on the garden seat where they were admiring the view over the South Pacific Ocean.

"What are you doing here?" Donald asked him.

"Er… this is my house... remember?"

They all laughed. Charles had made his fortune in Australia and left everything to Miranda.

"I often pop down, sit here and keep an eye on things. Like you, Donald, I loved Miranda even though I hurt her but I made up for it. Now, she has both of us looking after her."

"Me too and we look after all of the family." Sofia spoke, "Charles, I was just updating our readers on events out here."

So, dear readers, this seat where we all love to sit is sited at a memorial to myself and Donald. Miranda kept her word and had an area of the garden made into a memorial for us. There is a beautiful lilypond like the one back at HT where my ashes were spread. The children love to sit here and talk to me. Miranda has been very accommodating. She runs the Charm of Cyprus extremely well and it continues to grow internationally. Derek has to be careful not to stress with his health issues. He works for the company in his capacity as a doctor and runs first aid courses. Miranda has created a music room for him and purchased every possible classical DVD for him to play on one of the top Home Entertainment Systems where he can watch classical concerts from around the world in peace and quiet. This is his special place for relaxation and apart from the housekeeper and domestic staff nobody goes into that room.

"Look, Miranda's home." Charles shouted in glee as her chauffeur drove up to the house. They all moved to the front of the house to see her. She waited for her chauffeur to open her door before alighting from the vehicle. She had learned how to be a lady after her down-trodden days under Derek's thumb at HT. She blossomed and radiated happiness with her smile. She wore elegance in her dress and no longer trudged along in tracksuits. Her make-up? Toned down, no longer plastered to hide her feelings. Sofia looked for one thing, "She still wears my friendship bracelet."

So, folks, that's life down under. Next week, we will tell you about our life or 'afterlife' at the pub. Until then, be happy and blossom like Miranda.

Love Sofia, Donald and Charles xxxx

LAUNCHED...nostalgia!

Her table
She was there.

Hello Everyone,

This post was first published on 31/10/2014. Almost four years ago when I published the final book in the Sofia trilogy. Wow! Time flies by. Since then, I've published two booklets on Kindle and in August you can read one of my stories on this blog but for now enjoy reading about Love You Forever  I was very proud of this book and still am!

                                                      ********************

 Howde Folks,

Sofia still here. Lady M is excited. She launched her new book at the New Writers UK annual festival at West  Bridgford on Saturday. She selected a table in the committee room because she wanted one of the bigger tables.  You can see in the pic how she put all her books out but left one side for vino and food which went down extremely well with her colleagues and friends who visited to make a purchase. Naturally, she got someone to take a pic to prove that SHE was there. I thought she was looking good considering her age. The event was a success with many activities and speakers. She was really happy when she came home and had the usual chicken and chips celebration meal with vino while watching television. Then on Monday, she visited the library, as usual, and those nice librarians had put a pic up of her book and info about it. She is definitely on cloud nine at the moment.

Buy a book! Go on! Treat yourself!

Hello Everyone,

TREAT YOURSELF. SPOIL YOURSELF.  BUY A BOOK.

TIME & TIDE

This is the first book I published. For those of you who ask the question, How long does it take to write a book? It took 3 years to write this one. It was designed with the Millennium in mind. I know it's 16 years ago but to me it only seems like yesterday which is a sign of my own age. At that time there was much euphoria about the 'good old days' and all that had happened in the twentieth century and I thought it would be a good idea to take a character born on January 1st 1950 who would be celebrating her 50th birthday at the Millennium and create a family saga around her and those 50 years. I created the Stephenson family with Irene Joy born in 1950 and named Irene because the name means 'peace' in Greek. She was a symbol of hope for the future after the first part of the century had seen two World Wars. In addition to the narrative I gave Irene's mother the role of writing a diary but not just a personal one, one which included the social and historical events throughout the 50 years and it interspersed throughout the book in italics.
This book was self-published but it is still available worldwide on Amazon, and the Internet or from good bookshops. The ISBN is 9780953945108 and price £7.99 GBP. (paperback)

NO REGRETS

This book was originally written during the 6 week summer holidays in 1987 when I was still teaching. Only 6 weeks to write a book! The time taken to write a book is like the proverbial piece of string! It varies according to the author and the type of book. Writing must be about the only occupation where there is no set pattern for working; I have yet to meet two authors who work in the same way. It was originally titled Innocent Victim and a diary of a divorced woman and teacher throughout the year of 1986. At the time I denied the fact that it was cathartic but with hindsight! I was divorced then and teaching in the UK was not easy as the education system was undergoing radical change; I was thoroughly disillusioned with the entire system and wrote a rather dramatic line, 'one day someone will realise that education is about children'! Redeployment was everywhere and I found the majority of my colleagues to be more concerned with their own careers and promotions than with the children. I guess I was a cross between Jean Brody and Mr. Chips! I wrote it in diary format with each month being a chapter. I was pleased with the end result and attempted unsuccessfully to get it published in mainstream.
So, after learning all about self-publishing from The Citron Press, and publishing Time & Tide I decided to retrieve the Innocent Victim manuscript and rewrite it. I published a slightly longer version as No Regrets in 2003. All the characters are fictitious and any resemblance to anyone living or dead is pure coincidence. Dear Joanna finds herself in constant turmoil, 'The absolute lay on the table...'. She was divorced and had suffered the humiliation of her husband leaving her for a younger model. Everything had changed and all that she had taken for granted as a married woman had disappeared. She was now alone and must face financial, emotional, sexual and all the problems that life after a failed marriage brings. Life beyond her sanctuary continues regardless of her feelings or situation; she becomes a prey for every man in creation since Adam and learns to use sex to her own advantage...
This book is still available worldwide on Amazon, The Internet or from good bookshops. The ISBN is 9780953945115. Price £8.99 GBP (paperback)

STAY IN TOUCH

When I wrote this book I was proud to be able to say that I was an author and publisher of 'books' as opposed to just one book! It was also nice to be able to say that I was working on number 3. With this book I can confess to being an absolute hoarder and can justify never throwing anything away because it might come in useful one day. In the 1980's a friend had suggested that I write a play for a competition and it was at a time when I had met up with an old school friend. We had been communicating by sending postcards, birthday cards and Christmas cards with scribbled notes for many years and promising to meet up but had never managed to find the time. At last, we were in my home telling each other of marriages, divorces, and events throughout the fifteen years since we had left school. It was this incident in my own life which inspired me to write a play set in the café on Sheffield station. Two friends meet and tell each other of their lives in a hurried hour and promise to Stay in Touch but of course they both know they will not! That's Life!
As I was thinking about what to write next and looking through files I discovered this forgotten play and asked myself many questions of, What if? What if one is poor and one is rich? What if they both wanted what the other had? What if they would do whatever if takes to get it? What if they had set themselves goals to achieve in their childhood and decided to do them?
When my editor (a man!) read the manuscript I believe he was quaking in his shoes! He wrote the blurb for the jacket cover,
"Just what can drive a woman to murder? Or even three murders? Men. How can she become a serial killer, undetected and rich on the proceeds of her crimes? It all seems so simple for Christabelle after failed marriages to a homosexual and a bigamist. She confides only so much to her best friend as they recall their youthful wishes and dreams.
If you have ever written down 50 things you intend to do before 30,40 or 50 you will understand and marvel at this black comedy.
Marilyn L.  Rice has written a story which races along with the pace of a thriller yet shrewdly observes the problems facing women today and a terrifying solution of how they can be overcome.
And when you have finished the book the story will stay long in your mind...whether you are a woman - or even more so if you are a man."
This book was self-published in 2005 and launched at the Hay Festival but it is still available worldwide on Amazon and on the Internet or from good bookshops. The ISBN is 9780953945122 and the price £8.99 GBP (paperback)

LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER

I feel that authors grow with their work and by the time I was planning my fourth book I felt I had reached maturity. This book, like all of my books, began with the ending. I'm afraid I always start by writing the final chapter and then I know what I'm working toward. It may sound strange, and I usually have to make a few changes, but it works for me.
The idea was to interweave three things. The inspiration came from events in my own life. I once had the misfortune to meet a gentlemen whose sole aim in life was to complain and find fault. I have always had a strong relationship with my father and thirdly, I have visited clairvoyants/mediums. What if? What if? Could I work with a plot involving these three ideas and a lot of 'what ifs'? After a lot of planning - it worked!
"Sofia Haslington is a 36-year-old mother and housewife kept under the thumb of her priggish, anal-retentive husband, Derek. Living by a second-to-second timetable and under strict rules enforced by her husband, Sofia decides to visit a well-respected clairvoyant, hoping for a bit of respite from her otherwise dreary existence. But what she is surprised to learn that day not only changes her life...it changes her.
Sofia, now planning to die on March 5th 2005, writes a "Do or Die" list and, with a renewed sense of spirit, unleashes the bad girl hidden deep down inside. From breaking the Ten Commandments to exploring the marvels of Tantric sex, Sofia goes on a liberating journey of body, mind, and spirit, relishing every last minute she has left on this earth. Women everywhere will laugh, cry, and cheer as Sofia counts down her final moments, making each one more memorable and enjoyable than the last." (Blurb from SBP edition)
I self-published this, my fourth book, and launched it at M.Roberts. Books And ?????? shop in Slaithwaite, Yorkshire on September 16th 2007, exactly 7 years since I'd received the copies of my first book!
Later, in 2009, it was republished by the American Strategic Book Publishers in hardback.
Both editions (paper/softback and hardback) are still available worldwide on Amazon, The Internet and from good bookshops. The paperback edition is ISBN 9780953945139 and price £8.99 GBP. The hardback edition is ISBN 9781608600946 and price $28.50.

SOFIA'S LEGACY

          LOVE YOU FOREVER

Love You Forever is the final book in the inspirational and otherworldly Sofia Trilogy. The story concludes with a totally unexpected ending. It is five years later, 2010.

Sofia's Quiz

Howde Folks!

I hope you are enjoying your time with me. You may remember that Lady M gave Donald and I a new game to play in Love You Forever: Alphabet Sex!

We really enjoyed it. We took it in turns to decide on a place to visit, and have sex in full view of any audience. The more people around the more we enjoyed it knowing that they could not see us until we were in Rio at The Statue of Christ the Redeemer. We were the ones in for a surprise! We saw an elderly gentleman by the wall staring at us and then we realised that he could see us. This had never happened before. We soon understood. It was his time; we saw his late wife come for him and helped him cross over toward her.

Anyway, you can read all about it in Love You Forever but I was discussing this blog with Donald and asking him what I should do. He reminded me that Lady M does quizzes. That gave me an idea. We went to many places but what countries were they in? I'll give you the place... you name the country and as Lady M would say, "Answers next week".

Amsterdam? Holland/Netherlands
Jerusalem/Jericho?Israel
Kingston?Jamaica
Las Vegas?U.S.A.
Memphis? U.S.A.
Naples?Italy
Oslo? Norway
Paris? France
Quebec?Canada
Rio de Janeiro?Brazil, South America
Stanley?Falkland Islands (U.K.)
Taj Mahal?India
Union City, Utah?U.S.A.
Vancouver?Canada
Wicklow?Ireland
Xenia?Ohio, U.S.A.
York?England (U.K.)
Zell-am-See?Austria

Yes, I know there are only 18, 8 are missing. Apparently, we did do them. Brenda, my mother recalls Amsterdam because we brought her some tulips but Lady M started us at J indicating that we had already completed A-H. It is a complete mystery to us. We've asked her but she refuses us to tell us. Is it a secret or is it that she does not know? Writers!

So folks, have a great week full of magical moments.

Love Sofia xxxxx

Cinders you shall go to the Ball!

Well it is September and in just over three months time the tree will be decorated, the house looking festive, presents almost ready and cards adorning the home. Christmas is just round the corner! We are two thirds of the way through another year. Have you completed two thirds of the tasks you set yourself for 2015? If not don't panic just start a new list for 2016!

Thinking back to my New Year post I wrote it in purple, the colour of optimism, and wanted to make it the year to achieve dreams. The year when dreams come true. Well, I'm still waiting... how about you? But, I'm also still positive. I still like to make every moment count and try new things. I guess this year, so far, my 'first's' have been using my concessionary travel pass, travelling on the tram, visiting The New Library of Birmingham, visiting the Avebury Stone Circle, and  travelling on the Steam Train at Exbury Gardens.

Thinking ahead to the party season, if you were Cinders going to the Fancy Dress Ball, which of the following characters would you choose to be and why, or maybe you would like to add a character of your own?

William Shakespeare
Queen Victoria
David Livingstone
Elizabeth Garrett Anderson
John Lennon
George Eliot
Winston Churchill
Margot Fonteyn
Charles Darwin
Amelia Earhart
Vincent van Gogh
Cleopatra
John F Kennedy
Florence Nightingale
Elvis Presley
Dusty Springfield
Oscar Wilde
Mae West
Christopher Columbus

Personally, I would choose Florence Nightingale or The Lady with the Lamp as she was known. I admire her tremendously for all that she did and achieved which was difficult for a woman in her day. I find her an inspirational and caring character.

Until next week, have fun, make every moment count and never give up on your dreams!

Sofia's Selection 4

Howde Folks!

LIFE AT 6!

I've decided to embarrass her by going back to 'Life at 6'. You may remember that she was dreading reaching 60 and declared herself to be '6' for the next decade. Anyway, that was almost four years ago. She's perilously close to 64, now. We keep humming the famous song by The Beatles, "When I'm 64" just to annoy her.

Hello Everyone,
Yes, the 'Big Day' arrived and you can see from these photographs that I enjoyed it!
Now, I'm back in England at the start of my next decade.
As you have seen in the last blogs, Cyprus has been a whirl of excitement, visiting the sites, crossing the 'green' line in Nicosia, spending about ten minutes on Turkish soil as opposed to Greek and numerous other things. I've met new friends and been reacquainted with old ones. For those of you who remember my New Year's Resolution, which was to take every opportunity and challenge that came my way and enjoy them, after I had learned to use chop sticks at the Fortina; I can tell you that I've enjoyed a new opportunity - I've learned to play Rummikub! I'd never heard of it but now I love it. How many of you are still keeping up New Year Resolutions?
Anyway, I was getting concerned as the B day was drawing nearer...
On the 15th, I woke up and said to myself, (I can assure you that there was no one else in the room!) OMG It's the last day of the Brighton Line and for non-Bingo players, that's 59. It was a wet day which did nothing to help my forlorn mood. My new friend, Marion, was desperate to remind me of my impending doom at lunchtime. Feeling ancient I had a snooze in the afternoon and by dinner time I was almost counting the minutes until midnight.
Much to my surprise, it was a bright sunny day on the 16th and my first view was of the beautiful harbour and fort from my room. I remembered I was only 6 and declared that I would be more badly behaved this time round. Cards had been arriving for several days so I opened them with my morning cuppa and displayed them on the table. I had bought a special Tee Shirt for the occasion, I AM NOT 60, I AM 18 WITH 42 YEARS EXPERIENCE. I wore it with pride and went down to breakfast.
Marion was waiting for me. Then, I knew I was only 6 because presents of sweets and chocolates arrived. Marion had discovered Aphrodites Secret a shop selling honey almond sweets and purchased some which she deeply regretted and requested people assist her in devouring them. Well, one has to help a friend in need... Knowing how much I enjoyed eating them, as you can see, in the above photo, she kindly bought me some of my own! And another box of chocolates was handed to me by the SAGA rep, my dear friend Henry Phillips. I just kept my hand over the '0' on the Tee shirt and stated that I was only 6!
Later, I strolled to the harbour for a coffee at my favourite place. After lunch, I spent the afternoon on my sun lounger. I certainly did not do that the first time round! At some stage during the afternoon the birthday fairies aka Guest Relations at the hotel found their way to my room and left champagne and balloons.
And the perfect day continued into the early evening. At dinner, I was given another bottle of champagne; I had help enjoying it! Then, came the cake. If this is 'Life at '6'' bring it on!
One of the cards I received, had been left by a lady who had returned to England the previous week, I thought it was such a nice thing to do but her final comment was even more poignant and I would like to share it with you as my thought for the week.
Thought for the week: The best is yet to come!

Sofia's selection 2

Howde Folks,

Yes, I'm still here with Donald. She has no intentions of working before 2015. She has left clear instructions. Her latest book must appear on all blogs alongside her 'award'.
Anyway, to move on. We know SHE does not like wasting time! Our second choice is from February of this year when she took part in a blog chain and revealed much about her writing. So ... Enjoy!

Today I’m pleased to be taking part in a blog chain.
A blog chain is simply a blog post written on a set topic, at the end of which you nominate a given number of bloggers to do the same. So we have a linked  set of blogs popping up at intervals covering the same topic. The blog chain is bit different from the blog hop, during which a number of bloggers post simultaneously on the same topic, including links to each other’s posts.
Receiving the baton:
Passing the baton to me is the author Richard Denning.  Richard is a fellow member of the New Writers UK and a friend.  He is a fascinating, inspirational  person who I feel privileged to have met.  He appears to hold the secret to working 36 hour days. I once asked him when he managed to sleep. His reply...'What is this thing called sleep?' What a sense of humour! Besides his demanding day job he has two hobbies: games and writing. He organizes the annual UK Games Expo for fellow games enthusiasts where 4,000 attendees and over 100 exhibitors congregate to have fun. If you care to meet a Dalek, Dr.Who or see the Tardis plus loads of 'characters' , play board games and recapture your long lost youth, visit the Expo. He has also created games and written several books. More about Richard at

Now for my questions and answers:

1.What am I working on?

I began writing in the 1980's when it was a completely different ball game. In fact, my first work was written with an old fashioned implement called a pencil, in longhand, and then typed up on one of those museum items, a typewriter. Word processors and computers were in their infancy. It was an era when you sent a complete manuscript with page numbers to a publisher or agent who would at least look at it before offering some kind of constructive criticism as to why they were rejecting it. Self-publishing was expensive and beyond the means of the average person and so one continued sending out to mainstream publishers and collecting rejection slips until one had enough to paper the walls. There was always hope that ONE publisher would recognize one's genius potential and then THEY would publish and MARKET the book while one continued doing what one loved, namely writing, and watching the Royalties arrive before the tax man took his share.

New modern technology has changed all of that. Manuscripts are written in WORD and backed up on disc as opposed to paper and carbon copies. Print on demand has meant that anyone and everyone it seems can now write and publish a book. So, not only do you write it, you publish it and you MARKET it. The mainstream publishing houses are, like so may other companies in all spheres, fighting for survival. They are doing less for their authors, so even if you succeed in making a publishing house realize your genius potential and they publish your work you are still left doing the most difficult part, marketing. That is what I am spending a lot of my time on at the moment. I have just sent the information about my last two books, on-line naturally, to the remaining independent book shops in the UK and I'm also notifying reading circles of their existence and I'm advertising them where ever I can.

The project which I will be picking up in a few weeks time is the final work of my 'Sofia' trilogy, Love You Forever. I had planned to have it completed last year but I've had a lot of distractions. I have the last two chapters to complete and I intend finishing it this spring so that it can be edited and available by the end of 2014. Yes, I will do it!

(She did didn't she? When Lady M is determined...)

2. How does my work differ from others of it's genre?

I consider myself to be a unique individual. I have five published books and they are all different. I do not stay with a specific genre, neither do I have a set format. Many authors have the amazing ability to use the same format with every novel but some how manage to make it seem new, different and exciting. Alas, I do not have that talent.

My first book, Time & Tide stands alone as it is a Saga/History. It was designed for the Millennium. I created a family of three generations spanning over a fifty year period, 1950-2000. One of my characters kept a diary of historical/social events throughout the period. Thus, a historical novel with a difference or a piece of contemporary fiction. Take your pick!

My second work, No Regrets can best be described as 'Chick Lit' before 'Chick Lit was invented.

My third work, Stay in Touch is completely different from the first two and is described as black comedy.

Just what can drive a woman to murder? Or even three murders? Men. How can she become a serial killer, undetected and rich on the proceeds of her crimes? It all seems too simple for Christabelle after failed marriages to a homosexual and a bigamist. She confides only so much to her best friend as they recall their youthful wishes and dreams.... (taken from the blurb) It could fit into crime or romance or women's fiction or contemporary.

Then I have my 'Sofia' trilogy. This began with three interwoven ideas. An unforgettable holiday encounter plus my strong relationship with my Father and my own experiences of the afterlife. Yes, I am convinced that it does exist from personal experiences over the last years. It began with one book. I wasn't even sure if I had enough material for a book but after Look After Each Other I realized there were unanswered questions hence a sequel. Then, somewhere along the line, it became a trilogy. Genre? Contemporary fiction or mind/body/spirit. These books are written in two different universes and shows how one can help or hinder events in the other but cannot directly change them.

Genre? They haven't invented one for my writing apart from general humour!

3.Why do I write what I do?

I've no idea. It feels innate. A more usual question is where does the inspiration come from? Anywhere and everywhere; people, incidents and events.  I love the creativity of writing. As a child I was always happy if I had paper and pencil or a book. It just feels as if I should be writing; as if I've always known it was what I was put on this earth, in this life to do. Of course, writing for the majority of people, does not pay the bills and so I was only able to take it up after retirement from teaching. It is a labour of love. There's something magic about seeing the book develop and grow.

I do think of it as my legacy to the world. I hope that people benefit from reading my work. It is written not only for pure escapism, relaxation or entertainment but to help individuals in their every day lives. All of my books have dramas and creations from every day life scenarios; the problems and to some extent solutions.

In particular my 'Sofia' trilogy was written to help women through difficult domestic situations. I created Sofia as a character who turns her life around and stands up to her dominating, control-freak, over-powering husband. She creates a 'Self-affirmation' list which she uses as a mantra in order to regain her confidence, the self-confidence which her husband had over a period of time destroyed. She was the mother of his children and his property. He had gradually isolated her from friends and former colleagues until she had become a lonely figure, almost imprisoned in Haslington Towers. She breaks free and it all begins with lipstick!

4. How does my writing process work?

Well, if you've read this far you will not be surprised to read that I start with the ending!
I will spend a lot of time thinking, plotting, planning, playing with characters and ideas. Eventually, I will write the final chapter or last part leading to the final sentence which will be the book title. The excitement mounts as I approach the last line... the fact that I've about 95,000 words still to right seems to disappear from my mind. It's quite nice knowing what the last words are going to be from the outset.

With the end written it always feels like the battle is won. A great achievement has been accomplished. Now all I have to do is start at the beginning! We all know that the first sentence is make or break for a novel. Those initial words are far more important than the last chapter which is probably why many books are never written. How do you start? When you have the right sentence, the first paragraph and page has to be electric ensuring the reader turns the page or they'll never get to the wonderful ending. Personally, I go with gut feeling, if it flows and feels right, it is right.

So, now I have the end and the beginning, just the 80,000+ words in between to work on. Does it go according to initial planning? No, hardly ever. Characters surprise me by taking on lives of their own and I always go with it which means things will change along the way and parts of my wonderful ending will change as a result of that but I'm always happy with the final outcome.

Passing on the baton:
So I now pass the baton on to another original writer, Lizzie T Leaf,  a lady who is a sensational and spectacular author and shares my own thought that everything needs a few ounces of humour!  I look forward to hearing her answers.

Award winning author, Lizzie T. Leaf started life in Kansas, continued her growing in North Carolina, and currently shivers through the winters in Colorado.

Since discovering the fun of writing paranormal, she plays with creating vampires, faeries and other immortals. When she needs a touch of reality, her Contemporary Erotic Romances come into play.

If she’s not creating mischief for paranormal beings, or getting under the covers with her erotic heroesshe can be found exploring the other genres she wants to write She also served as the 2012 President for the Heart of Denver Romance Writers and is the 2014 VP of Programs.

Lizzie loves to read, spend time with her family and travel with her best friend husband during her free time.

LOVE YOU FOREVER ll

Howde Folks,

Yes, Sofia still here. Lady M is excited waiting for news on her next book about us. She now knows that we are going to cost $18 and we weigh in at 305 pages, 6" x 9". She is thinking about her next launch and the events coming up.

On Sunday 5th October she will be exhibiting her books at the NOT THE HAY BOOK FESTIVAL, Bartons plc, 61, High Rd., Chilwell, Nottingham NG9 4AJ. It's free admission and open 10:00-4:00. There's entertainment and a variety of stalls. She was there last year and that's where she took the pretty pic above. If you're in the area on that date pop in.

Then, later in October she will be at the Wellington Literature Festival in Shropshire on 18th and on Saturday, 25th at the NWUK annual festival in West Bridgford, Nottingham. More about those later.

We hope you enjoyed reading about us enjoying ourselves in New York last week.

This week we're going to share one of our experiences in our Alphabet Sex game with you and next week we'll tell you how we helped someone take that step into the next room.

“It’s Canadian French. Quebec is French speaking. Rue is ‘street.’ We are standing on St Paul’s Street. Let’s stroll and see the sights.”

“Okay, lead on, my lady. Your lord will follow you.”

“This way, I think. It goes to the port.”

 “How do you know?”

“Instinct, map, and guide!” She produced a map and a tourist guide.

They strolled down the road to the port and then wandered round the streets before Donald asked the question, “Where?”

“Château Frontenac. It’s Quebec City’s most celebrated landmark. Look. It has to be that chateau.”

They both stared at the magnificent, imposing green-turreted castle with its slanting copper roof. It towered over Quebec City and could be seen from all directions.

 “Okay, inside or outside?”

“It’s a hotel now, so inside. Let’s have a look round and select a room . . . one to die for.”

“But will it beat our favourite haven in the Manhattan skies?”

“Doubt it. I think I’d like one overlooking the St Lawrence River, though. What souvenir shall we take back with us?”

 “What’s Canadian?”

 “Maple leaf.”

“Look, Sofia.” Donald had noticed some coasters in a souvenir shop with a maple leaf design on them.

“Perfect. Let’s get them. You pick one up and I’ll sort the till.”

They left the shop clutching their trophy.

“We’re a great team, Lady S. On to the next stage?”

“Definitely, my lord. Oh, wait. Look. Let’s get a T-shirt each with the maple leaf design on it as well.”

 “T-shirts?”

“Yes, and we could take presents for Billy and Jack.”

“Okay. Let’s hurry up, though. I’m getting anxious.”

 “You can’t. We’re dead.”

“You know what I mean. I’m anxious to ravish you, my lady.” He put his arms round her waist and kissed her neck. “I can’t wait.”

“Down, boy.” She laughed as she led him into another shop. They made their purchases and sped off to the hotel, both wearing their newly acquired T-shirts. In reception they looked around. “This is palatial. It’s so elegant, like we’re in a time warp. I love the oak panels—so olde worlde. Comes a close second to New York.”

“Yep, I agree, my lady. Let’s check out the rooms.” He was planning it all. First they’d have a luxury bubble bath and drink champagne and then he would ravish her, so they needed a room with a large bathtub and a king-size bed. The great thing about America and Canada is that everything is big and spacious.

“Okay, my lord and master, you may choose the room and position. After all, Quebec was your choice.”

 “But you picked this place.”

“I’ve got good taste. It’s got eighteen floors. We want the top-floor room with a view and hopefully some interesting paying guests to haunt.”

 “Lady S, no!”

“Yes. Don’t spoil my fun.” She raced ahead of him to the elevator. “Come on. Top floor.”

They found a room they liked overlooking the river with a king-size bed in it.

“This’ll do, my lord. Let’s see who we’re sharing with.” She wandered round picking up items of clothing and looking at the luggage. Donald found two passports in the drawer by the bed.

“Don’t they have safes in this place, or are these people just silly? They’re Americans. Elderly. Joseph and Phyllis Lincoln.”

“Well, she likes french fries and burgers, looking at the size of these clothes. They’re twice the size of Miranda’s caftans. In fact, Miranda would be lost in them. And they’re cheap.”

“Never mind. Come on. Let’s hit the bath.” Donald was becoming impatient; he took her arm and pulled her into the bathroom.

“Wow, but it’s not as big as the Manhattan one.”

“No, Lady S, but we can still have fun.” He turned on the taps, found the complimentary toiletries, and poured them all in, ensuring loads of bubbles. He returned to the bedroom, found the champagne in the minibar, collected the flutes, and went back to the bath. They waited until the bath was more than half full and then tore off their clothes in haste and simultaneously jumped into the water, causing it to splash all over the floor. The taps were still running, and they splashed each other. Donald picked up the bottle of champagne from the floor before it could drift away in the water; he popped the cork and poured the wine into the two glasses. They had a glass each and linked arms as they drank. The taps were still full on, and there seemed to be more water on the floor than in the bath, but neither of them cared. This was what death was all about. Fun.

 “Let’s have some toasts.”

“Okay, Donald.” They raised their glasses and simultaneously said midst laughter, “Cheers.” Their glasses clinked together.

 À votre santé.”

“Oh, French, Lady S. How about yamas?” They clinked the glasses again. “Avanti, fifty forty-two!”

“Oh, Donald, we’ll never forget that room or Cyprus.” She picked up some soap bubbles and blew them in his face midst laughter. “Mazeltov.”

Mazeltov? Where did that come from, Sofia?”

“Jewish. Yiddish. Hebrew. Good luck. Cheers. Congratulations. It just came to me.”

“Okay, together then.” They clinked the glasses and said simultaneously, “Mazeltov.”

 “To fun, Sofia.”

 “To fun.”

 “To death.”

 “To death.”

 “Champagne-filled days.”

 “Champagne-filled days. Je t’aime.”

“French again?”

“This is a French-speaking place, and French is supposed to be a romantic language. France is a place of romance and amour. Love.”

 “To amour.”

Amour.” Those flutes just kept clinking away.

 “Love you forever.”

 “Love you forever.”

 “Sex.”

 “Sex.”

“Yes, please.” He took her glass and threw both of them at the wall, knowing they would fall without shattering. This was fun, and at last they were going to have sex, first in the bath and then on that beautiful king-size bed. Just how lucky could a man get? Death really was wonderful. He put his arm across to pull her closer to him.

“That’s enough. You two are impossible. I’ve been calling you.”

“Dad.” Sofia couldn’t believe that her father had walked into the bathroom and seen them both naked in the bath.

“Scott,” Donald uttered. “What’re you doing here?”

“I’ve come to collect you. Someone’s arrived who wants to see you.”

“But we can’t leave. We haven’t had sex yet.”

“And I haven’t had the chance to haunt the people staying in the room. We haven’t finished our game. We can’t leave.”

 “You can come back later.”

“But it won’t be the same.”

“No, it won’t. We have to stay and finish the game.” Donald had no intentions of leaving before he had made love to her in the bath and on the king-size bed.

“Well, you’ll have an excuse to go somewhere else beginning with Q. That place in Algeria.”

He passed them towels and instructed them to get dressed. Suddenly they both felt like naughty schoolchildren who had been caught in the act and automatically did as they were told.

“Who wants to see us? I’m sure it can wait.”

 “Wants to see you, Donald.”

“So, I can stay and haunt?”

“No, Sweet Pea, you’re coming home, now.”

 “Dad, I’m not sixteen!”

“No, you’re dead, but you’re residing under my roof again.”

 “Who is it, Scott?”

 “Wait and see.”
  “Scott?”
“I said, wait and see.”

“Can’t we take the plane back?”

“No, Donald. No chance of the mile-high club today.”

Reluctantly, they got out of the bath and wrapped themselves in the towels before dressing. The water disappeared; there was no evidence to suggest that they had been there.
